ECA SUBMITS LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR CONFIRMATION OF TED GARRISH TO BE DOE ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

ECA has submitted a letter of support to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to voice support for the expeditious confirmation of Theodore "Ted" Garrish to be the next Department of Energy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy.

Mr. Garrish's nomination was received in the Senate in early February,  where it was referred to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for consideration. The mission of the DOE-NE program is extremely important to the future of our nation’s energy security. For ECA communities, the growth of the American nuclear agenda represents the pursuit of economic development while contributing to that mission. Filling this important role with a leader of Mr. Garrish’s caliber and leadership experience will ensure that we accelerate nuclear energy development and cutting-edge research.

A trusted partner, Mr. Garrish has worked with ECA for over 30 years, and has participated in numerous ECA meetings. We anticipate that Mr. Garrish will continue to support many of the same priorities and endeavors that ECA does – including facilitating the deployment of nuclear energy.

Mr. Garrish previously served as a DOE Assistant Secretary for International Affairs during the first Trump administration, leading DOE’s work with energy programs overseas. Ted has a long history of working on energy dating back to the Reagan administration. He has served as General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at DOE, as well as Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental affairs.

Ted has also worked in the private sector on nuclear energy issues, including on nuclear export controls with U.S. companies and to assist emerging nuclear power nations with developing legal and regulatory programs.
