HOUSE UNVEILS FY2025 FUNDING PLAN AS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN LOOMS 5 DAYS AWAY
Congress has less than five (5) days to avert a government shutdown by the end of this week (March 14), and Speaker Mike Johnson (LA) has unveiled a (7) seven-month funding plan that would keep the federal government running through Sept. 30, 2025. The fiscal year 2025 started on October 1, 2024 and has been operating on a CR since that date. The continuing resolution (CR) would increase defense spending by about $6 billion, while non-defense funding would be cut by a total of about $13 billion. This is considered a “clean” CR as it does not include large policy riders and hence a greater chance of passage.
The House could vote and pass the CR as soon as tomorrow, March 11, if it passes the House, the Senate would require all Republican votes plus seven (7) Senate Democrats to vote in favor of the CR by end of week.
